The Wall Street Journal announced today (5 May) that it would adjust its Asian operations, migrate its current headquarters from Hong Kong to Singapore, and reduce the size of its Hong Kong-based reporters and editors to just single digits. It is learnt that some Hong Kong-based reporters will be relocated to Singapore or other parts of Asia, while several reporters and editors will be laid off.

Emma Tucker, the company's editor-in-chief, said in an internal circular that the WSJ would shift the focus of its Asian operations from Hong Kong to Singapore, and mentioned that some of her colleagues would be forced to leave, mostly from Hong Kong.

At the same time, the WSJ will create new editorial positions in Singapore to lead business news coverage of China's stock market, property market, electric vehicles and Hong Kong stocks.
