<H Shrs>HSI Closes up 162 Pts; CN Banks Lead Charge; ICBC Leaps 5%

The HSI rallied 162 points or 0.8% to close at 19,883. The HSCEI climbed 69 points or 1% to close at 7,213. The HSTECH rose 13 points or 0.3% to close at 4,457. The total market turnover for the half-day amounted to $127.306 billion.

Chinese banks performed robustly to shore up the market. ICBC (01398.HK) leaped 5%, while BANKCOMM (03328.HK), CCB (00939.HK), ABC (01288.HK), PSBC (01658.HK), and BANK OF CHINA (03988.HK) advanced 2.4-3%. Chinese insurer PING AN (02318.HK) jumped up by 2%.

As for other financial stocks, HSBC HOLDINGS (00005.HK) plans to sell its French life insurance business, involving EUR925 million. Its stock price hiked 1.1% to $74.95. HKEX (00388.HK) and AIA (01299.HK) edged up 0.5% and 1.2%, respectively.

EAST BUY (01797.HK) narrowed its gains to 5.9%, while WEIMOB INC (02013.HK) retreated 3.5%. TENCENT (00700.HK) ebbed 1.5% to $420.2. E-commerce stocks enjoyed a rebound. BABA-W (09988.HK) and JD-SW (09618.HK) hiked 1.1% and 1.6%, respectively.

Tech stocks XIAOMI-W (01810.HK) and NTES-S (09999.HK) inched up 0.3% and 0.9%, while BIDU-SW (09888.HK) shot up 3.2%. MEITUAN-W (03690.HK) waned 1.9%. Chip stock SMIC (00981.HK) gained 2.8%, while PA GOODDOCTOR (01833.HK), KINGSOFT CLOUD (03896.HK), and JD HEALTH (06618.HK) swelled over 3%. SUNNY OPTICAL (02382.HK) sank 4.3%.

SF HOLDING (06936.HK) was added to the lists of securities eligible for SH-HK Stock Connect and SZ-HK Stock Connect, but its stock price lost 1%. Airline stocks AIR CHINA (00753.HK), CHINA SOUTH AIR (01055.HK), and CHINA EAST AIR (00670.HK) added 5%, 3.7%, and 2.8%, respectively. Film-related stocks ALI PICTURES (01060.HK) and MAOYAN ENT (01896.HK) spiked 8.5% and 2.5%, while MNSO (09896.HK), TINGYI (00322.HK), and TOPSPORTS (06110.HK) escalated 2.5-2.9%. POP MART (09992.HK) plunged 5.8%.

Chinese developers SUNAC (01918.HK), R&F PROPERTIES (02777.HK), and SINO-OCEAN GP (03377.HK) plummeted over 3%.
