U.S. stocks traded mutedly prior to Christmas holiday, with mixed trends on Monday. The S&P 500 settled 43 points or 0.7% higher at 5,974; the DJIA 66 points or 0.2% higher at 42,906; and the Nasdaq 192 points or 1% higher at 19,764.

The “Magnificent Seven” were led by Nvidia (NVDA.US), which was named a top stock for 2025 by Morgan Stanley and leaped 3.7% on Monday. Tesla (TSLA.US) and Meta (META.US) both gained more than 2%.

Honda and Nissan announced a merger plan and inked a memorandum of understanding, while Mitsubishi Motors also joined the merger discussion. Honda's US shares (HMC.US) maintained upswing, closing about 13% higher.
