The HSI hiked 193 points or 1% to 20,259 at midday. The HSCEI climbed 92 points or 1.3% to 7,404. The HSTECH inched up 64 points or 1.4% to 4,722. Total half-day turnover of the market amounted to $80.935 billion.

Chinese AI foundation model, DeepSeek, hit No. 1 on the Apple App Store's Top Free Apps Chart in China and the US. AI concept stocks were popular. BIDU-SW (09888.HK) and BABA-W (09988.HK) leaped 4.2% and 3.5% each, while GDS-SW (09698.HK) and MEITU (01357.HK) spiked 12% and 11.5%. KINGSOFT CLOUD (03896.HK) surged 10.5%, while WEIMOB INC (02013.HK) also swelled 7.7%. SENSETIME-W (00020.HK) and KINGSOFT (03888.HK) ascended over 5%.

For other techs, TENCENT (00700.HK), MEITUAN-W (03690.HK) and JD-SW (09618.HK) gained 1.2-1.4%, while KUAISHOU-W (01024.HK) jumped 2.5%. TME-SW (01698.HK) and NETEASE MUSIC (09899.HK) mounted 5.8% and 4.2%, while chip stocks HUA HONG SEMI (01347.HK) and SMIC (00981.HK) waned 3.3% and 2.3%.

Telecommunications infrastructure-related stocks ZTE (00763.HK) and YOFC (06869.HK) cascaded 4.4% and 12.5%, while handset related stocks SUNNY OPTICAL (02382.HK), Q TECH (01478.HK) and COWELL (01415.HK) lost 2.4-3.3% after the implementation of the new handset subsidy in mainland China for about a week, with nearly 8 million applicants.
